Automation doesn’t make a Cognitive System

A new marketing trend has emerged: Cognitive Radios, Cognitive Safety Systems, Cognitive Binoculars, etc. The problem is that the underlying 'system' isn't really any different, just the marketing hype has changed. TRW recently announced its new "Advanced Automatic Emergency Braking System" as "...another example of a Cognitive Safety System ..." in a recent press release.
